At the turn of the century, Hartmann Brothers joined with
the Henry Sanders Company of Chicago to supply the country
with all-heart redwood columns and a variety of
architectural specialties ranging from fine hardwood veneer
door panels and entrances to garden gazebos. Indicative of
those early days, Hartmann-Sanders advertised "factory
showrooms" on Elston Avenue in Chicago and on Park Avenue in
New York. Anxious to spread the word about the fine wood
products and the unique Koll Lock Joint, early
Hartmann-Sanders ads appeared, not only in architectural
journals, but even in major consumer publications like
National Geographic.
Still under the guidance of the Koll family,
Hartmann-Sanders grew from those beginnings to become the
world's largest manufacturer of authentic architectural
columns and a full range of classically designed capitals.
Over the years, Hartmann-Sanders has provided columns for
tens of thousands of installations including such august
institutions as Harvard University, Sweet Briar College, the
Vanderbilt estates, the Governor's Mansion in Georgia, and
The White House.
Now headquartered in Gadsden, Alabama, Hartmann-Sanders
offers expanded manufacturing facilities that combine modern
technology with the time honored craftsmanship of
woodworking artisans to meet today's market needs for a wide
variety of wood species and other materials.
